...In Sickness...

K and I did not have a wedding cake last year, so for our one year anniversary I brought these little cake toppers and my sis got us a little cake.

It's funny how when I took my vows a year ago, how little I paid attention to the "... to have and to hold, in sickness and health" line. Specifically, the sickness part. I think I was more focused on saying "I do" at the right time while simultaneously preventing myself from breaking into tears. No matter, cause this year, my Love and I have been living out our vows to care for each other through a lot of ailments.

I mentioned in an earlier blog some of my health issues. Since then, I've learned that I do not have hyperthyroidism. Unfortunately, I have developed a neuropathy, and the doctors are stumped as to why (You can go ahead and click on that link to get more info about neuropathies... as soon as I got home from the doctor's, I googled it.). I'm going to write a separate blog about this later, but prayers are appreciated and for those who have been praying already, thank you so much. The neuro-muscular specialist I saw yesterday told me it is not ALS or MS, thank God.

But on a much lighter note, in the midst of all the nerve stuff, I had a cyst on my face (which started as a blackhead as a teen) that became infected. That's right, on my face. You'd think with the heavier, scarier medical problems going on, I'd be too distracted to whine about an ugly bump. But then you'd have thought wrong. Alisha, thy name is vanity.

The infected cyst last week. Small, purplish bump that I easily hid with my hair.

Ahhhhhh! October 23rd... the cyst can no longer be hid. Tragically, our one year anniversary was the next day and I looked like this!

On the 26th, I headed to the plastic surgeon's office (since the dermatologist refused to touch it). He made a small incision and drained it. Too bad the local anesthetic he injected into my face did not kick in until AFTER the procedure was over. My jaw still feels tore up, and the ordeal is not over. I have to go back to this doctor next week to have the cyst actually removed. More cutting, more Johnson & Johnson's plastered to my face.

This is true love folks. This morning, I had to go to the lab for blood work relating to the neuropathy (and if you're wondering how I have time for all this, I have this week off from work... we were originally going to take off for a vacay for our one year anniversary). Although I was going to a place full of medical personnel, I was horrified of the the big old bandage I had to keep on my face. K grabbed one, and slapped it on his face. Even though it covered a third of his face, K put Nelly to shame with his band aid game. He did it to show solidarity. He also showed love. And how right I was to say "I do."
